Let's Eat - In Remembrance of Me

Matt Knight

Now I don’t know about you but I was a little disappointed that Pastor Matt started a series off this week titled Let’s Eat without giving us some great recipes or at least having a snack or two prepared!  It just seems a little misleading.  Maybe he is holding out for this Sunday!  Homemade biscuits and sausage gravy would be a nice make-up for last week!  Just my thoughts.

However, he did give us some real meat to chew on this week in God’s word. I know many of you are like me and grew up thinking the same thing that he talked about on Sunday morning. That in some way we had to examine ourselves and make sure our actions were right and good enough for us to partake in the Lord’s supper.  If it was based on mine and your actions and what we could do to make ourselves right to partake in communion we would never get to participate in it! The real fact is that it is not about me or you.  It is, has been, and will always be about Jesus!

And the good news is that he has given us his Holy Spirit so that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us!  (Romans 8:11). I wish we all could grasp how huge this really is!  I know I act like I have forgotten that fact from time to time.  Let’s be honest it’s been a rough 12 months and with everything going on in our world it can be easy to lose focus.

It is, has been, and will always be about Jesus!

My encouragement to you this week is this: Let’s live like we believe that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. Let us rest in his finished work. Let’s walk in the same spirit that raised Jesus from the grave. We can do this by renewing our minds each morning. Like the Apostle Paul instructed in Romans 12:2 – “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  When I renew my mind daily, it makes me more sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and allows me to prioritize things of God over earthly things.  It has truly made a difference in my life.

I hope you have a great rest of your week!  I look forward to the tasty snack that surely Pastor Matt is preparing for us on Sunday!
